Working with inventory transactions

You use this routine when you want to increase or decrease the amount of stock in a warehouse without printing any documents, (e.g. if you want to scrap an item or pick something out for a demo).

Note: If you want to move items to another warehouse, you use the Inventory movements routine. See About internal stock movements.

Transit stock
This routine can be used to decrease the number of warehouse goods in transit stock. Transit stock is registered when the Back to Back (BtB) routine is used to deliver goods, from your supplier to your end customer, via the transit stock area of your warehouse. If the quantity delivered to your customer is less than the quantity received from the supplier, the remaining quantity is stored in your transit stock as surplus.

Note: You cannot sell goods that are located in transit stock. You can only decrease the amount that is stored in that area by using this routine. The stock can also be moved into normal stock by using the Inventory movements routine. See About internal stock movements.

Cost type FIFO
If the cost type, specified in the DIS control file, is FIFO (First In First Out), you have the possibility to define the cost price for each inventory transaction you enter. Using cost type FIFO means that every time you add goods to stock (by purchasing or manual transactions), the system creates a FIFO transaction with an individual cost price. When goods are withdrawn from stock (by sales or manual transactions), the system searches for the oldest active FIFO transaction to get the cost price for that transaction.

Transactions created
The transactions created from this process are immediately updated throughout the system for the time axis and stock on hand value for the warehouse involved in the transaction. All transactions entered are stored in the Inventory transaction file which you can view at any time through the Inventory transaction enquiry.

Note: Transactions for non-conforming stock are described in About non-conformity stock.
